A British Airways-operated Boeing 777 was forced to make an emergency landing at Shannon Airport for the second time in the last three days.

The plane was en route from Seattle to Heathrow with 220 passengers onboard this morning when it experienced technical difficulties in one of the engines. The pilots requested permission to divert to Shannon, where the aircraft landed without any further eventuality at 10.24am.

The same aircraft was flying from Heathrow to Boston last Friday night when it also experienced technical issues in one of its generators.

The pilots decided to turn back and land in Shannon until the fault was corrected.
