The family of 72-yr-old Pat Hickey are said to be extremely anxious about his detention in Rio.
Mr Hickey is temporarily being detained in a jail cell in Rio over accusations of connections to Olympic ticket touting.
His family have said that they are ‘gravely concerned’ over his health in particular, given his age and the fact he is being held in general population, having had his head shaven, in a maximum security facility in Rio.
The Hickey family are hoping to get a meeting with Taoiseach Enda Kenny in an effort to get their loved one home. They have appealed to Minister for Sport Shane Ross and the Minister for Foreign Affairs Charlie Flanagan to intervene and “just do something” to help with the situation.
