Pay day for social welfare recipients as govt to release payment times of Budget cash bonuses

Social Protection Minister, Heather Humphreys, will outline payment dates for the funding in the Budget today, reports RTE.

Three lump sum payments will be made this week.

Next Thursday, around 120,000 carers will receive a lump sum of €400.

From Wednesday, November 29, to Friday, December 1, around 240,000 people in receipt of residence allowance will receive a lump sum of €200.

Throughout the week, families of 370,000 eligible children will receive a lump sum payment of 100 euros per child.

This benefit is paid to people who receive qualifying child allowance as part of their basic social welfare benefits.

The Minister will announce a new retirement benefit program for long-term carers, reports RTE.

A new contribution scheme for long-term carers makes it easier to qualify for the contributory state pension.

Meanwhile, the Higher Education Minister has announced that the state will cover accommodation costs for young adult students leaving state care.

Simon Harris said this would mean students would have permanent job security and not have to worry about costs, reports RTE.
