You may have seen various images being posted on Facebook this week with various numbers of how many people died in Ireland from suicide over the past month compared to the number of people who died from covid-19 over the past month.
Official figures of suicides are hard to determine, but in this journalist’s own experience alone – two people I know of have died from suicide in the past three weeks.
Comparing that to thankfully 0 deaths from coronavirus in the last 10 days in Ireland and you can see why people are getting quite angry about the lack of emphasis being put on people who are finding it difficult to cope nevermind anything to do with covid.
Many social media users are saying that the lockdown, the wall-to-wall coverage from State media and the government about covid is getting to people far worse than coronavirus itself ever could.
