People availing of the Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) scheme might be in hock to the taxman to the tune of €1,000.
After issuing the payment, the Government unexpectedly announced that those receiving it might be hit with a tax bill that could top a grand.
Those hit with the hefty bill will be given the option to pay the money back over a 4-year period.
