People in receipt of Covid-19 pandemic and jobseekers allowance will have payments stopped if they travel abroad




 

It has been revealed that those in receipt of Covid-19 pandemic and jobseekers payments will have their payments stopped if they travel abroad.

The news which has already affected over 100 people was confirmed by the Tanaiste Leo Varadkar who was speaking on RTE’s This Week in Politics programme.

According to Varadkar the suspension of payments will occur if recipients are found to be leaving the country.

The Tanaiste said that requirements of both payments involves recipients being in the country and who are actively looking for employment.

It is understood that the new measures were approved by Social Protection Minister Heather Humphries earlier this month.

According to Varadkar their will be an increased Garda presence at airports and ports in order to check who is planning on leaving the country.
