
In the village of Coole in north Westmeath, a group of concerned citizens managed to stop the installation of modular houses in the area on Friday evening.
Up to sixty locals demonstrated outside the complex from Thursday night to stop trucks, cranes, and modular houses from entering and finally the vehicles left on Friday evening.
The Department of Integration and Minister Roderic O’Gorman had assured local TDs Peter Burke and Robert Troy that no plans exist to place more applicants for international protection in the village, but locals weren’t buying it and fought back.
