People who share intimate images online without consent will now face up to 7 years in prison

A bill has been enacted to criminalize the distribution of intimate images without consent.

A tweet from the Irish President read: “having considered the Harassment, Harmful Communications and Related Offences Bill 2017, President Higgins has today signed the Bill and it has accordingly become law”.

This means that there are now two new crimes that involve the non-consensual dissemination of intimate images with an unlimited fine and / or up to seven years in prison.
