The mutant strain of the Covid-19 virus has now been detected in Norway, Canada, and the island of Madeira.
The strain, codenamed VUI-202012/01, is up to 70% more transmissible than earlier strains.
The world is now seeing a hard resurgence of the Covid-19 virus once again, and though vaccines are beginning to be rolled out, it will be months before they make a difference.
