Pest infestation at asylum seeker centre saw child hospitalised, investigation finds

Upon inspection, it was discovered that certain staff members lack Garda screening and that asylum seekers are staying in apartments with insect infestations, reports Breaking News.

The Health Information and Quality Authority (Hiqa) discovered during inspections earlier this year that a kid residing in a facility in County Monaghan was admitted to the hospital due to vermin infestation in their family home.

A youngster was brought to the hospital at St Patrick’s Centre, Monaghan, a community of 338 members, due to the presence of bugs in their family’s housing, reports Breaking News.

Additionally, inspectors discovered that some adults and children shared mattresses as a result of overpopulation.

In one instance, a family of five who were going to have a second child were living in cramped circumstances with no room for a cot, reports Breaking News.
