40,000 new homes could be built this year, Eamon Ryan claims

According to Eamon Ryan, the leader of the Green Party, 40,000 new houses might be constructed this year, reports RTE.

This would be much more than the 32,700 new houses that were actually completed in 2023 as well as the 33,450 new constructions that Housing for All has set as its aim for 2024.

Mr. Ryan warned his party’s convention yesterday during his leader’s speech that this year’s housing goals could be surpassed.

“We are all acutely aware of the shortage of housing for our young people,” he said, reports RTE.

The average worldwide air temperature has risen over the 1.5 degree increase that experts think is a tipping point, beyond which things might become irreversible.

Mr. Ryan also mentioned that the last 10 months have been the hottest in recorded history.

He said: “In Ireland, we have seen the reality with endless rain over the last ten months. Our fields are sodden, too wet to pick potatoes in the autumn or to sow grain in the spring. Cattle are still in their sheds. Around the world climate change is bringing havoc, causing conflict and forced migration,” reports RTE.
