Flanker Peter O’Mahony has been ruled out of the Irish squad for the rest of the Rugby World Cup after sustaining knee ligament injury during the game against France yesterday.

And in a double whammy, team captain Paul O’Connell may also be a non runner due to hamstring injury picked up during the same game. He is due to undergo scans today to determine the extent of his injuries.

No decision has been made as of yet regarding potential replacements for the men.

Mick Kearney said “Paul O’Connell appears to have suffered a significant hamstring injury and was hospitalised overnight, he’s having scans later today to clarify the extent of the injury.”

“Peter O’Mahony has suffered a knee ligament injury and is returning to Dublin.”
