In the midst of the new hysteria over statues a new petition has garnered over 5,000 signatures calling for a statue of Indian independence leader, Mahatma Gandhi, in Leicester to be taken down.
The petition alleges that Gandhi was a “fascist, racist and sexual predator” and was well known for his “anti-black racism”.

However, Leicester East MP Claudia Webbe, a supporter of some calls for statues to be removed, called the petition a “massive distraction” from the Black Lives Matter movement, which she herself supports.
While Professor of Indian history at Oxford University, Faisal Devji, said he thought the debate to remove the statue was “absurd” several other academics have noted Gandhi’s derogatory views towards black Africans while he lived in South Africa in the late 1890’s.
Several statues in the UK have had to be boarded up to prevent BLM supporters and other radical leftists from attacking or defacing them after the trend was started in the United States with Ireland’s caretake Taoiseach Leo Varadkar indicting statues here may also be pulled down.
