Plastic screens similar to those used in shops, bars and schools to protect staff, customers and students from Covid-19 can ‘increase viral transmissions’, new report claims

A new scientific study on plastic screens used in education facilities has thrown doubt onto their effectiveness for stopping the spread of the Coronavirus.

Linsey Marr, professor of civil and environmental engineering at Virginia Tech, claims the presence of plastic barriers in classrooms would create aerosol traps that increase viral transmissions report Breitbart News.

The professor said “If you have a forest of barriers in a classroom, it’s going to interfere with proper ventilation of that room”.

“Everybody’s aerosols are going to be trapped and stuck there and building up, and they will end up spreading beyond your own desk.”

Whilst there are some situations where plastic screens can limit the spread of the Coronavirus, their efficacy is not proven and the science is still developing.
Back in June 2021, researchers from Johns Hopkins University published a study alleging that plastic barriers in classrooms further increased coronavirus infections.
