Police in seven countries have arrested 179 people in a global crackdown on the dark web drugs trade, Sky reports.

It follows the closure of Wall Street Market, a major darknet marketplace run by three German nationals where customers could buy anything from forged documents to firearms and narcotics. Over 500kg of drugs and 64 guns were seized in raids across the US, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, the UK, Sweden, and Australia. Overall the organisation’s criminal assets amounted to $6.5m.

The global underworld is increasingly taking to the dark net to run their operations. In 2018 Gavin Davis, a 31 year old from county Wicklow, was extradited from Ireland to the US for his involvement in the Silk Road, one of the original and largest deep web drug marketplaces.
