Police hailed after rescuing six-month-old baby girl after her father tried to drown her in a pond

Police in the US have been hailed as heroes after they managed to rescue a six-month-old baby girl after her father tried to drown her in a pond.

According to The Kansas City Star, officers from Greenwood Police Department, North Missouri, were praised after they managed to rescue the infant after her father confessed to what he had done.

It is believed the baby girl’s father Jonathon Zicarelli, 28, walked into a police station and confessed moments after he tried to drown his daughter in a nearby pond.

Following the confession, police officers immediately launched a a search investigation and within ten minutes they had the location of the infant.

Speaking about the horrific case police say they found the little baby alive  floating face up in the pond and heading down stream.

It is understood officers quickly waded into the water and brought the infant ashore, before she was rushed to hospital.

Officers say the little girl had grass in her mouth, mud in her eyes and was suffering from severe hypothermia.

They also say she was transferred to hospital by a crew from the local Fire Department.

Meanwhile Zicarelli has been charged with domestic assault of his infant daughter.

Police say Zicarelli confessed that he was constantly having bad thoughts and was stressed out about the Christmas holidays and he thought killing his daughter would make things easier on his wife.
