Only weeks ago Iarnrod Eireann issued proposals to increase the frequency of DART services to every ten minutes, starting January.
However, the National Bus and Rail Workers’ Union (NBRU) has now rejected these proposals, deeming them as ‘unworkable’, and stating that they were issued without consultation.
The NBRU say that such proposals will “heighten tensions and run the risk of reigniting the recent conflict which led to industrial action and trains not running for a number of hours”.
Industrial relations between company officials and drivers at Iarnrod Eireann have been strained in recent times. Workers staged a three-hour strike on the October Bank Holiday, and a second day of industrial action was only averted at the last minute after management agreed to attend the Labour Court.
