Potential Pfizer Covid-19 pill could be available by the end of the year

One of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies Pfizer is reportedly working on a new pill that could potentially treat and prevent Covid-19.

According to The Telegraph newspaper, the pharmaceutical giant is currently undertaking phase 1 trials in both the US and Europe on the potential new pill named PF-07321332.

The Telegraph reports that the trials currently include 60 clean living volunteers aged 18 to 60 and the trials could move to the next phase later this month if the pill proves effective.

It is understood that the antiviral drug being tested is a protease inhibitor, that  has been developed to attack the so called spine of the SARS-Cov-2 virus.

The drug aims to target the virus and therefore stop it replicating in the nose, throats and lungs.

However researchers will be looking to see how the drug is tolerated by trial participants and they will be particularly looking at how the drug works and if it causes any serious side effects.
