Presidential contender and internationally renowned dancer Michael Flatley surprised crowds with a flute performance on Saturday at the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Wexford, reports Breaking News.
The Riverdance icon, who holds dual Irish-American citizenship, is planning to seek a nomination for the Irish presidency, according to details revealed last month during a High Court case related to renovations on his estate in Co Cork.
Mr Flatley, who qualifies to run due to his Irish citizenship, also alluded to a possible presidential run during an appearance on RTÉ radio’s Brendan O’Connor show. However, he noted that no final decision had yet been made, reports Breaking News.
He said during the radio interview in July that he did not believe the Irish people “have a voice – not a true proper deep voice that speaks their language”.

The performer said he often hears worries from “the average person on the street” and believes they are not “happy right now,” reports Breaking News.
The next presidential election, which fills a largely symbolic role, is expected to take place by late October. It must occur within the 60 days before President Michael D Higgins’ current term ends on November 11th.
To run for office, a candidate must be at least 35 years old, hold Irish citizenship, and receive a nomination either from 20 Oireachtas members or four local authorities, reports Breaking News.
Flatley, known for his dancing, music, and artistic work, has remained tight-lipped about his potential candidacy, offering only a brief message on social media: “Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, Wexford. Thanks for a fantastic day! Lots of Irish music, dance and culture.”
The Lord of the Dance star performed both on the event’s main stage and in the streets of Wexford town, reports Breaking News.
Flatley has competed in the Fleadh Cheoil multiple times as a concert flautist and also appeared at the festival in Ennis, Co Clare, in 2017.
Organisers said this year’s eight-day celebration is set to surpass last year’s event — also hosted by Wexford — with an estimated 700,000 visitors expected in the town.
Between 40,000 and 50,000 participants took part in 180 competitions throughout the festival, reports Breaking News.
