Power-addicted Alan Kelly counts the sour grapes of defeat tonight

alan_kelly

Acting Minister for the Environment Alan Kelly found himself entangled in a bitter net of defeat, after his much beloved water charges were flushed before his very eyes by the people’s power.

‘Enviromental sabotage’, Mr. Kelly referred as to Fianna Fail’s campaign to abolish the much hated charges. ‘Water shortages in Dublin will happen in future years,’ his gloomy salvo of bitternes in the Dáil continued. Women, children, and possibly pets will litter the streets of the capital, perishing in the drought, he was just short of saying.

The acting minister’s comeuppance was roundly delivered to him today, when the charges were scrapped, or rather ‘suspended’ for a certain amount of time. In reality though, no future government in their right mind would dare to re-introduce the charges, lest they wish to press the nuclear button on themselves.

Though Irish Water shall remain standing for a time, it will do so as a totemic representation of the government’s abject failure to subdue the population, who finally said enough is enough.
