
Gail Slater, a woman from Dublin, has been appointed to lead the antitrust division at the US Department of Justice, a crucial role in the upcoming administration of president-elect Donald Trump, reports Breaking News.
The Dublin-based attorney was a contender for one of the prominent positions in the new Trump administration and has now been selected as the assistant attorney general.
At 52 years old, and originally hailing from south Co Dublin, Ms. Slater graduated from UCD law school and has served as a policy adviser for vice president-elect JD Vance, reports Breaking News.

An alumna of Oxford University, Ms. Slater will oversee several significant monopoly cases involving companies such as Apple, Google, and Visa.
According to US media reports, Mr. Trump stated that Ms. Slater will “ensure that (US) competition laws are implemented vigorously and equitably, with clear regulations that encourage, rather than hinder, the creativity of our finest companies,” reports Breaking News.
During Mr. Trump’s initial term, Ms. Slater served as a tech policy adviser on the National Economic Council, focusing on Chinese telecommunications equipment, and has provided advice to his transition team on antitrust and tech policies.
She has also spent a decade at the US Federal Trade Commission, where she worked as an adviser to former Democratic FTC Commissioner Julie Brill in Barack Obama’s administration, reports Breaking News.
