President Michael D. Higgins has paid tribute to Shane MacGowan, who died at the age of 65 with his family by his side, reports Breaking News.
The former frontman of The Pogues is best known for his hit festive song “Fairytale of New York” and is considered one of the greatest songwriters of his generation.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar also praised MacGowan’s ability to capture the essence of the Irish experience in his music, particularly for those living abroad, reports Breaking News.
