A 49-yr-old woman has been jailed for life for killing her two children in a car fire in Co Westmeath last year, reports RTE.

In barely audible whispers, Lynn Egger, from Winetown, Rathwyn, Co Westmeath, confessed to murdering five-year-old Thelma Denany and her two-year-old brother Michael.

Iger set fire to a car with two children in Lacan, Multifarnham, on September 9 last year.

The Central Criminal Court heard the child’s mother was in the passenger seat and was pulled to safety by a passerby, suffering only “minimal burns”, reports RTE.

Michael Dennany said the birth of his two children was the happiest day of his life.

He said holding Thelma for the first time was the “most terrifying” moment, but he was the “happiest man in the world.”

“When Mikey arrived two-and-a-half years later, Thelma became the best big sister ever, she wanted to do everything for him. From the moment they met they were stuck together like glue: Fearless, mischievous partners in crime,” reports RTE.

The day that they died, Mr Dennany had planned to collect chestnuts with his children after school.

“We never got to do that,” he said, reports RTE.
