U.S. President Donald Trump has unveiled a significant initiative to develop artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, spearheaded by Japanese conglomerate SoftBank, Oracle, and ChatGPT creator OpenAI.
Dubbed “Stargate,” this initiative “will invest at least $500 billion in AI infrastructure in the United States,” Trump declared during a statement from the White House.
“This monumental undertaking is a resounding declaration of confidence in America’s potential under a new president,” he added, just a day after beginning his second term, reports Fox.
The announcement was attended by key industry leaders, including OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman, SoftBank’s CEO Masayoshi Son, and Oracle’s founder Larry Ellison.
Stargate aims to address the escalating computing demands and energy requirements of AI technology. President Trump highlighted that the project will focus on constructing both physical and virtual infrastructure to support future AI developments, including “colossal data centrs.”
According to a statement on X by OpenAI, “SoftBank and OpenAI are the lead partners for Stargate, with SoftBank overseeing financial aspects and OpenAI managing operations.” They also noted that MGX is another initial equity investor, with Arm, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Oracle, and OpenAI listed as the primary initial technology partners.
“Buildout is currently underway, starting in Texas, and we are evaluating potential sites across the country for more campuses as we finalize definitive agreements,” the statement concluded.
