After a Washington bishop accused US President Donald Trump of inciting terror among the nation’s LGBTQ and immigrant populations, Trump labelled him “nasty” and demanded an apology, reports RTE.
Mariann Edgar Budde, the bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, made an appeal for illegal migrants and LGBT individuals, two groups that Mr. Trump singled out with executive orders just hours after taking office.
Mr. Trump was obviously unprepared for the criticism when he attended yesterday’s regular presidential service to mark his inauguration, reports RTE.
She said that the “fear” was felt throughout the nation. “I ask you to have mercy, Mr President,” the bishop replied quietly.
“The so-called Bishop who spoke at the National Prayer Service on Tuesday morning was a Radical Left hard line Trump hater,” Mr Trump said this morning on his Truth Social platform, reports RTE.
“She wasn’t intelligent or captivating, and her tone was unpleasant…. “The public deserves an apology from her and her church,” reports RTE.
On Monday, Mr. Trump announced plans to ban asylum requests and deport illegal immigrants from the nation.
Additionally, he ruled that transgender people would not be acknowledged; only males and females will.
Bishop Budde spoke to Mr. Trump, who was sitting next to his wife Melania in the front pew of the church: “I ask you to have mercy, Mr President,” reports RTE.
When asked his thoughts on her comments, Mr. Trump previously stated: “I didn’t think it was a good service.”
However, the president blasted “illegal migrants” in his Truth Social post:

“The service was quite dull and uninspired, aside from her offensive remarks. She does not do her job well! “The public deserves an apology from her and her church,” reports RTE.
“There are gay, lesbian, and transgender children in Democratic, Republican, and independent families,” Bishop Budde stated in her lecture, reports RTE.
“The people who pick our farms and clean our office buildings, who labour in poultry farms and meat packing plants, who wash the dishes after we eat in restaurants and work the night shifts in hospitals – they may not be citizens or have the proper documentation,” she said, reports RTE.
“But the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals.”
A frowning Mr. Trump occasionally glanced away from Bishop Budde. Vice President JD Vance and his family also appeared taken aback and unhappy by the intervention.
By asking aviation authorities to evaluate diversity hires, forcing the private sector to join the effort, and threatening to put federal DEI personnel on paid leave, Mr. Trump has intensified his assault against diversity programs, reports RTE.
Such programs, according to civil rights advocates, are required to confront systemic racism and long-standing injustices.
Yesterday, Mr. Trump released a new executive order that rescinded executive directives from 1965 on equal employment opportunities, environmental activities, and encouraging government contractors to achieve racial, gender, and religious workforce balance, reports RTE.
According to the Labour Department, President Lyndon Johnson signed the revoked 1965 order to safeguard federal contractors’ employees’ rights and guarantee that they would not be subjected to discrimination on the grounds of race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national origin.
In an effort to prevent private companies that are awarded government contracts from employing people from under-represented backgrounds, the Trump executive order referred to this practice as “illegal DEI discrimination and preferences” and requested that government agencies identify private companies that may be the focus of a civil investigation, reports RTE.
The Trump administration’s plans for implementing “civil compliance investigations” were not immediately clear.
