According to a person familiar with the preparations, the new US presidential administration of Donald Trump intends to step up immigration enforcement across the country shortly after he becomes office on Monday, reports Breaking News.

“We’re going to be doing operations all across the country,” the person told Reuters on Friday. “You’re going to see arrests in New York. You’re going to see arrests in Miami,” reports Breaking News.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the government will conduct a massive immigration raid in Chicago on Tuesday, to which the source was reacting.

According to the publication, which cited four sources with knowledge of the plans, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement would send between 100 and 200 officers to conduct the operation in Chicago, which would span the entire week, reports Breaking News.

There was no specific push to relocate staff to Chicago, according to the individual who told Reuters.

A request for response from Reuters was not immediately answered by Mr. Trump’s transition team, reports Breaking News.

The focus of Mr. Trump’s campaign in the run-up to the presidential election on November 5th was immigration.

In January 2024, Mr. Trump declared, “We will launch the biggest domestic deportation operation in American history within moments of my inauguration,” reports Breaking News.

Building on his first-term attempts to use all available resources and compel so-called “sanctuary” localities to comply, Mr Trump is anticipated to activate agencies across the US government to assist him in deporting record numbers of immigrants, according to Reuters, reports Breaking News.
