As the race for the 2020 US Presidential election heats up President Trump has spoken to say that he does not want any donations to his campaign from the pharmaceutical industry.

Earlier this week the President attacked big pharma for its role in the disastrous opioid epidemic blighting his country. Over 100 Americans die from an opioid overdose every day on average.

At an event on drug addiction in Atlanta President Trump stated, “I don’t want their money,” (The Pharmaceutical Industry) “They have got to do what is right.”

The industry has never been a big donor to President Trump, donors working for pharmaceutical firms gave his 2016 campaign just $386,862 compared to $2.7 million they give to loser Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton.

The Trump administration has increased scrutiny of pharmaceutical companies as part of an initiative to combat addiction to prescription painkillers which has provoked the ire of the powerful industry.

Earlier this week for the first time in history, Federal Prosecutors charged opioid distributor Rochester Drug Cooperative and its former chief executive with felonies in relation to the opioid crisis.

A profoundly brave move on the part of President Trump as Big Pharma is now thought to rival the Military Industrial Complex in its influence over US politics.
