Prince Charles to meet with Sinn Fein’s Gerry Adams later today

Prince Charles will reportedly meet Sinn Féin’s Gerry Adams in Galway tomorrow as he begins a two-day official visit to Ireland.

The meeting will be the first in Ireland between Sinn Féin leader Adams and a member of the British Royal family since the Republic’s independce. The move comes as the British prince and his wife are expected to meet the countries leading figures over his two day visit. The meeting is scene as a significant step for the party, the meeting comes after Sinn Fein’s Martin McGuinness shook hands with Queen Elizabeth at a function in Belfast’s Lyric Theatre, in his capacity of Northern Ireland’s Deputy First Minister back in 2012.

Sinn Fein announced over the weekend that the parties Ard Comhairle had authorised representatives to attend a number of functions during the two-day programme of Prince Charles and his wife Camilla in counties Clare, Galway and Sligo.
