Professor Philip Nolan has urged people to continue with Government guidelines in order to stem the spread of Covid-19.
Speaking on RTE’s Morning Ireland programme, Nolan said that cases could reach an unsustainable level if people become complacent.
The professor’s comments comes as it was revealed that community transmission had doubled in the past few weeks.
Although Prof Nolan said the rate is not as high as last February, he did state that the growth is too fast.
He added that the National Public Health Emergency Team have become concerned about the transmission of cases from workplace settings to homes which then make their way into the community.
