Professor Philip Nolan says leaving your home with flu or Covid-19 symptoms is socially unacceptable like drink driving

The chair of the National Public Health Emergency Team’s Epidemiological Modelling Advisory Group Professor Philip Nolan has warned that a measured response is needed to tackle the rising caess of Covid-19.

Speaking to RTE’s Today with Claire Byrne programme, Nolan said Ireland is currently on a knife edge as the rate of cases has risen from 8 to 10% in the last week.

Although Professor Nolan said that the Covid-19 vaccine is outstanding its not complete.

Nolan went on to say that the virus is moving subtly and slowly through the vaccinated population and urged everyone not to socialise if they are experiencing Covid-19 or flu like symptoms.

The Epidemiological Professor also said the idea of anyone leaving their home with symptoms has to become socially unacceptable like drink driving.

He added people shouldn’t mix if they  have any symptoms, and they’re better off not working as they could infect the one in ten unvaccinated people
