Professor Philip Nolan warns that Ireland could see up to 2,500 cases a day if current trends continue

Professor Philip Nolan has warned that the country could see between 1800 and 2500 cases a day if current trends continue.

Speaking at the National Public Health Emergency Team briefing on Thursday, Professor Nolan said the country’s Reproductive number currently stands at 1.4.

He also warned that there could be as many as 400 hospitalisations a day by the end of the month if the virus is not brought under the control.

Although professor Nolan said the number of cases being reported in Dublin has stabilised, he said that the National Public Health Emergency Team have become increasingly concerned about the rise in cases around the rest of the country.

Nolan’s comments come after a further 1,205 cases were reported on Thursday.
