Prospectors have discovered a new oil reservoir in Iran, and initial estimations say that the site might yield up to 50bn barrels.
If confirmed, this amount would boost Iran’s reserves by about one third.
The new oilfield was located in Iran’s southern Khuzestan province.
Iran has the fourth largest proven oil deposits.
