p to 5,000 people gathered at Portlaoise today, to protest against the HSE’s proposed closure of the A&E Department at the town’s hospital.
According to the HSE, the proposed closure is due to a lack of day-care patients using the facility, and also a lack of critical care consultants.
The chair of the medical board at the hospital has warned that the health crisis will be made worse if the planned closure goes ahead.
