
Police probing a stabbing in Co Down on Christmas Eve have released an image of a suspect they are seeking.
Two individuals were hurt during the incident on Chippendale Avenue in Bangor, with one remaining in a critical state, reports RTE.
At approximately 3.30pm yesterday, a man carrying a hammer and a knife entered a home and attacked a woman in her 50s and a man in his 20s.
Police confirmed that both victims were taken to hospital, reports RTE.
According to the PSNI, the attacker ran from the scene on foot while still carrying the weapons.
“An investigation is underway, and efforts are being made to locate the suspect, who is described as being approximately 5ft 10 ins in height, with short, dark hair, and wearing a blue hoodie, a grey coat, a dark coloured t-shirt, blue jeans, and dark trainers with white soles,” a spokesman said, reports RTE.
PSNI Chief Inspector Rocks said: “We are urging members of the public not to approach this man if they see him, but to create a safe distance and contact police immediately on 101, and quote reference number 914 of 24/12/25,” reports RTE.
The PSNI said enquiries are continuing and urged anyone with information, CCTV, or other footage to get in touch with police, reports RTE.
In a separate incident in Banbridge, Co Down, a man was injured after being assaulted outside a hotel.
A police spokesperson said: “We received a report at around 8.30pm on Tuesday 23 December that a man had been attacked by a number of males outside a hotel,” reports RTE.
“It was reported that one of the suspects exited a vehicle at the front of the hotel and threw a liquid in the victim’s face.
“The injured man attempted to run away but fell and was then slashed multiple times across his back before the males got into the vehicle and drove off,” reports RTE.
“Officers attended along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and the man was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries.
“The males involved in the attack had their faces covered and it is believed they were driving a black Toyota Avensis,” reports RTE.
“Our enquiries are ongoing and we would appeal to anyone who was in the area on Tuesday evening around the time of 8pm and 8.30pm and saw anything suspicious to contact us,” reports RTE.
Detectives are also urging anyone with relevant dash cam or other footage to come forward and make it available, reports RTE.
