“The govt aren’t bothered” – Student sleepout raises well over €300,000

The Belvedere College sleepout in Dublin has collected more than €300,000 for Focus Ireland and the Jesuit Refugee Services, reports Breaking News.

Over 160 secondary school students from Dublin participated in the 40th annual charity event by sleeping rough over two nights to mark the milestone.

The college highlighted that the shortage of affordable housing, soaring rent costs, and a record number of individuals escaping conflict are key factors driving the initiative, reports Breaking News.

Shea Hogan, spokesperson for Belvedere College, stated that the exact final figure is still being calculated. “I’m feeling fantastic. Spirits are through the roof,” said Hogan, reports Breaking News.

“We found out that we raised €318,520, and that’s just the provisional number. We still have more to count, but through street collection and online donations, that’s the total amount we’ve raised so far. So everyone here in the school is over the moon,” reports Breaking News.
