Public toilets promised for Dublin city centre last year remain at the “concept stage,” despite significant funding being announced, reports Breaking News.
In June, nearly €6 million was allocated for four new facilities, following earlier plans to close temporary toilets near Grafton Street, reports Breaking News.
Those closure plans were later dropped after public and political opposition.
Donna Cooney, a Green Party councillor for Clontarf, said there is widespread agreement on the need for more public toilets in the city, reports Breaking News.
She said councillors had supported the funding announcement, particularly after proposals to remove facilities at St Stephen’s Green.
“We’re yet to actually see the reality of these toilets appear on the street, you know I suppose all councillors welcomed this announcement because we were told the toilets were going to be closed down on Stephen’s Green and we just didn’t accept that. We’re all of us are looking for toilets in our areas and it’s something that, actually, you’ll find across the full council,” Cooney said, reports Breaking News.
