Public urged to be careful after young boy is stung by Lion’s Mane jellyfish on Irish beach




The public have been warned to be careful  at public beaches after a young boy was stung by a Lion’s Mane jellyfish whilst playing on a beach in Co Louth.

According to Blackrock Tidy Towns Facebook page, the young boy hospitalised following the incident which occurred at Blackrock on Tuesday.

It is reported that the boy sustained a serious sting to his stomach during the incident.

In a post Blackrock Tidy Town’s said: “This little boy learned the hard way that jellyfish, possibly a Lion’s Mane in this case can still sting badly even when they’re dead.”

“He was playing on the beach in Blackrock this afternoon when he decided to pick one up.”

“Please be aware that some jellyfish stings can be very serious, and stay well clear of them even when washed up on the shoreline.

“Thanks to this little boy’s mum for allowing us to make other parents and children aware of the danger.”

It is believed that the boy was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda following the incident and required treatment.

However thankfully according the boy’s mum he is expected to make a full recovery after he was given antihistamines and steroid treatment.
