‘Punches and screams’ as winter sales get underway countrywide

Violence among eager shoppers baying over that heavily discounted, must-have item is nothing new, of course. When those store doors open and the tidal wave of people rushes in, you better not get in the way of a bargain.

The much anticipated winter sales 2014 got underway across the nation today. From Dublin to Cork, and everywhere in between, people defied foul weather and were out en force to avail of some good items at a good price. People queued from the early hours of this morning to be the first in line.

It didn’t all go smoothly though, as Gardai had to reportedly be called to some locations to deal with some overzealous bargain hunters. There were reports of ‘murderous screams’ outside a Next store, and someone got punched on the way into Brown Thomas.

No serious incidents to report so far, though, and retailers have enjoyed brisk trade so far.

Tomorrow, Saturday, is expected to be even busier.

Good hunting!
