After travelling to London to meet a six-year-old child and sexually assault her, a 49-year-old Dublin man was sentenced to nearly seven years in prison, reports RTE.
But Adrian O’Reilly was speaking with a London policeman, and the youngster was a fake.
O’Reilly, an accountant, was detained by Met police officers at the meeting place in Stratford after he flew over from Ireland under the guise of meeting the youngster.
Detective Constable Ed Hickford said: “Our pursuit of those who engage in illegal sexual activity with children is relentless and we will use a range of tactics to identify and arrest those responsible. In this case, O’Reilly thought he was communicating with a person who was offering access to a young girl,” reports RTE.
“His messages were vile and he endorsed these by getting on a plane and flying to London with the intention to carry out this abuse. However, he was greeted by my team who arrested him and compiled a wealth of evidence which left him with no choice but to plead guilty,” reports RTE.
According to a police statement, O’Reilly was reported to them in January 2023 after exchanging chats with a police officer who was pretending to be a different user.
