The Sewell Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities (Cred) has published it’s findings that on average, earnings of Chinese, Indian and ‘white Irish’ exceed those of white British people.
White-Irish top the list, earning on average 41% more that the white British.
The Belfast Telegraph reports that Economist Dr. Esmond Birnie said:
“The immediate explanation for this is a relatively high level of educational qualifications: higher percentages of the white Irish having at least 3 A-levels and progressing to high education. The white Irish unemployment rate was also relatively low.”
The CRED report has not found any evidence go “institutional racism” in the UK. The Commission also found that Black Carribbeans were the only ethnic group who performed lower than White British pupils.
