The boss of the HSE said that the Omicron variant of coronavirus is now running rife right throughout the entire country.
Commenting on latest numbers, which show 9,006 new daily cases, Paul Reid said that there is unprecedented demands for testing with major pressure being place on the HSE as a whole.
Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, he said: “If you think that you have Covid, it’s most likely that you have it.”
“It would seem that there’s a peak at some stage,” he said. “We certainly aren’t at that by any stretch just yet.”
It’s expected that numbers will dramatically rise over the coming days.
