Remembering Brave ‘Batman Ben’: Family of little Ben Farrell ask mourners to wear bright colours at his funeral to remember his love of fun

The family of little Ben ‘Batman’ Farrell will pay their respects to the brave little boy who captured the attention of nation, with his smile, later today and in one last act to honour their little hero they have asked all mourners attending his funeral to wear bright colours to remember his love of fun.

Little Ben, who had great passion for superheroes, sadly lost his battle against cancer on Wednesday. The brave and courageous young boy was tragically diagnosed with an aggressive IV Wilms tumour on Christmas Eve last year.

In a effort to prolong his life his determined and loving parents Alan and Val made the brave decision to bring their terminally ill little boy to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Michigan just four weeks ago, after they were informed by doctors at Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin that they could do no more for him.

The trip to the US was brought about after the public provided over €260,000 in donations during a nationwide fund raising campaign.

The latest appeal comes from Ben’s heartbroken parents who want to remember their son in a colourful display as he was always a “ball of fun” and always “full of smiles.” The loving parents are also asking that people donate to the cancer charity, The Gavin Glynn Foundation, instead of offering flowers.

The grieving family have also issued a touching funeral announcement which describes “Ben Farrell, aka ‘Batman Ben’, the adored son and ‘Super Hero’ of Valerie and Alan and the inspiration to legions of volunteers, supporters and well-wishers, after a brave battle, passed at home nestled in the mantle of his family’s love and devoted care.

“Ben’s memory will be cherished forever by his heart broken parents, baby brother Jack, adoring grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins extended family, neighbours and many, friends.

“Night, Night, Sleep Tight, our little bundle of joy”.
