The countries newest political party Renua Ireland had seemingly poached a leading Fianna Fáil councillor to run for a seat in the Dáil.
It is believed that councillor Patrick McKee will switch parties tomorrow were he will also be unveiled as Renua’s candidate for the Carlow-Kilkenny by-election.
The news comes as a blow to the Fianna Fail party as Councillor McKee was only elected to run for the party ten months ago, he also currently serves as the deputy chairman of Kilkenny County Council.
Mr McKee’s decision comes in the wake of severe unrest from backbenchers within the Fianna Fáil party. Mr McKee had been a long time party and had reportedly shown interest in contesting the by-election for the Fianna Fail, but be decided not to put his name forward for selection.
