The boil water notice issued on Tuesday afternoon sparked a ‘supermarket run’, leading to chaotic scenes as people scrambled to get their hands on bottled water.
Shelves were left empty across many stores after some 600,000 people were told their water supply was no good due to issues at the Leixlip Water Treatment Plant.
To add insult to injury, concerned residents looking to get answers online found that the Irish Water website had crashed.
The boil water notice remains in place today.
