In its pre-Budget submission, Retail Ireland is today calling on the Government to cut the top rate of tax to boost consumer spending.
Also, the organization says that such move would promote the creation of thousands of extra jobs.
Thomas Burke of Retail Ireland has said that the retail sector needs as much support as it can get:
“The general economy has been recovering quite well over the last 18 months or so, but the retail sector hasn’t seen that benefit, that upturn,” he said.
“But we have seen, in recent months, the beginnings of a recovery in this sector.
“However, we’re far from out of the woods in the sense that we would have seen a number of high-profile failures in the sector in recent times.”
