Retrofitting 500,000 Irish homes to make them more energy efficient could cost €50,000 per house

There’s been reactions of shock at proposed costs and speculation as to how much retrofitting homes could cost to make them more energy efficient.

In an effort to comply with European Union climate change targets, people may see bills of €20,000, €30,000 or even up to €50,000 to prevent enormous property tax, electricity bills or other levies that would be incurred.

Last night’s PrimeTime on RTE covered the government’s plans to so-call tackle climate change but Richard Bruton was left with zero answers as to how they’re even going to get enough people working in the building industry to work on 500,000 houses needed to be retrofitted.
