After four years of America First policy under President Donald Trump, the first US leader not to embroil his country in a new foreign conflict since the 1970’s, there has now been a return to status quo under Biden with strikes on Syria.

Biden followed up his rolling back of President Trump’s move to end the Afghan war, the longest in US history, with air strikes last week on an Iranian backed militia on the Syria-Iraq border that has been fighting Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State for several years.

The Biden administration claims it carried out the strikes in retaliation for a rocket attack on the US embassy in Baghdad last month however, the new administration has reasserted the foreign policy aims of the Obama and Bush White Houses in its support for regime change of non-vassal states such as Syria.

President Trump had accomplished unprecedented peace agreements in the Middle East during his four years in office, garnering little credit for the hostile corporate media but with Joe Biden in office, some commentators have warned the region could be headed back to the disastrous state it was in during the Obama years.
