Revenue issue warning over scam phone calls where caller tries to get bank details by claiming there is an outstanding tax bill

A warning has issued from Revenue to Irish taxpayers, alerting them to scam phone calls that insist on immediate bill payment.

The warning has been necessary due to a number of reports from people who say that they have received a call from someone pretending to be from the Revenue and demanding payment of an outstanding tax bill.

Revenue have made it very clear that they never ask customers to provide confidential information over the phone.  They have advised that if anyone receives one of these calls then they should contact their Revenue Office to report it, and if they hand over any bank details by mistake then they should report it to the Gardai and to their bank.
