Rising energy bills and rising social welfare payments are on the cards for budget

It’s looking likely that there’s going to be significant rises in energy bills in next month’s budget along with a rise in payment for social welfare recipients. It’s understood that there’ll be an increase in petrol, diesel and other fuels while social welfare recipients look likely to get an increase in pay in next month’s budget.

There’s been a mixed reaction on social media to the announcement that social welfare recipients will be getting a rise in their payments in next month’s budget.

Some PRSI workers say that they’re not getting a penny while paying for everyone else in society.

Over the past year and a half, social welfare recipients have seen very little in line of pay increases, but that’s now likely to change, says Varadkar.

The Tanaiste Leo Varadkar will announce during the Fine Gael think-in that many welfare increases are justified and promises that the highest tax rate will not be increased to pay off the Covid debt, reports the Mirror.

In the next month’s budget, pension and social benefits will be increased and there will be no tax increases to pay off our billion euro Covid debt, Leo Varadkar is expected to announce.

Fine Gael and Tánaiste Chairman Varadkar will use the party’s deliberations on the Monday before the Dáil to bring the good news to pensioners, workers and welfare recipients.
