In scenes reminiscent of Graveyard Shift, a pest control company has been confronting a formidable foe, in the form of rats the size of small dogs.
The skirmish took place in the Kilcronan Court estate of Clondalkin, Dublin. Residents say the area has been overrun with large size rodents for over a month. The rats are said to be running amok around the estate, terrorising the population.
Rentokil have been tasked with the elimination of the threat, aided by some local volunteers who used axes to smite down the vermin.
It is understood the situation was first reported six weeks ago, but the infestation has steadily grown since, requiring the assistance of pest controls experts.
This is the latest episode in a rodent-led offensive that began in Midleton, Co. Cork, when a man got bitten in his lower area by a rat stalking him while he used the toilet.
